Sustainable Agriculture

Agriculture is vital in global poverty reduction strategies. Adopting agroforestry practices is the only way of implementing many forms of integrated land management options. Agricultural sector stands as one of the major contributors in the world’s economic growth, pathway out of poverty and environmental sustainability (UNDP, 2012).

Sustained agricultural growth is a fundamental to reduce overall poverty in Africa.  CCC seeks contributing to the green economy for smallholder farmers while benefiting the environment, protecting public health, reducing poverty and strengthening food security. According to KNOEMA (2020), in Tanzania 6,537,832 hectares, in 2017, were under cereal production. The confidence is that there are still a lot more that need to be done; make farmers productive and commercial. Improving quality and increasing quality remain an issue to be addressed.

About 73% of the Tanzania’s rural population, their main source of livelihood depends solely on subsistence farming where land becomes the most important commodity Kimario D (2014). Our agricultural subsectors’ focus are beekeeping, fisheries, animal husbandly and crop production for self-sufficiency, employability, promoting food security, fighting malnutrition and increased poverty reduction efforts.

Working in partnership with governmental and nongovernmental players, our main support is directed unto supporting small-scale eco-entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial agriculture, forming cooperative, commercial producer groups and tackling food waste. We equip and practically train smallholders and agricultural extension officers. Farm field schools and other market based understanding and knowledge based training are some of the methodical way of delivering skills development. Agriculture has remained untapped opportunity and an income avenue for employing majority population of which 60% of – are young people.
